This presentation explained many of the complications that can arise due to the growing phenomenon of tongue piercing. Items covered will not only be the common site specific dental problems such as tooth chipping and gingival recession, but also the uncommon and less heard of microbiological factors that can lead to local and systemic infections. Dental health professionals need to be educated and aware of the local and systemic problems associated with this growing trend so they can educate patients who already have this procedure done or are considering piercing in the future.
